Expedition IA UW
Excavations held by the Institute of Archaeology, University of Warsaw in Novae stared in 1960. Now, Polish teams from Warsaw are two – one from the Antiquity of Southeastern Europe Research Centre, University of Warsaw headed by prof. Piotr Dyczek and one from the Insitute of Archaeology, University of Warsaw headed by dr Agnieszka Tomas.
The Archaeological Expedition of the Insitute of Archaeology held excavations in the headquarters building and in some places along the fortifications of Novae. Now, the headquarters building is reconstructed and opened for the visitors. The excavations of the fortifications of the legionary fortress have been finished. The results were published in Archeologia (Warsaw) journal.
Recently, the Expedition of the Institute of Archaeology explored early Flavian pits discovered in the heart of the fortress. The materials are exceptional and accurately dated by coin finds. Now the publication edited by Tadeusz Sarnowski is being prepared.
